Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals - February 24, 2014

My layer cake blocks are still on the design wall but the difference now is that they are all made (last 3 made after this picture) and trimmed.  The pattern calls for white sashing between cut 1 1/2 inches.  Trying to decide if I want to make it slightly wider and cut them 2 inches instead.

I think this is going to be very cute and springy.

Dear daughter was home from college this weekend so didn't sew much, it was more enjoyable to catch up on everything with her.  I did get a small kids quilt quilted yesterday after she headed back to school.  This one was made by my husband out of left over blocks from a quilt of mine from a few years ago and left over binding strips.  I think he did a great job.

I did meet all my weekly goals.  I quilted 2 customer quilts, quilted and bound two runners and made a backing for the rails quilt.  In addition I finished all the layer cake blocks, made a backing for this bright kids quilt and also got it quilted.

Goals for this week I am going to keep short with a couple of appointments this week and then several of us going to the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show in Virginia the end of the week.

Goals:

Quilt 2 small customer quilts
Quilt and bind 2 spring table runners
Cut out 2 more spring table runners

Have a wonderful week!

Sunday Stash Report - February 23, 2014

It was a busy week with a couple of appointments, a sew in and daughter home from college for the weekend.   I surprised myself with how much I got done in the last week.

I did "purchase" more fabric from my mini shop for two backings but since I laundered them and pieced the backings right away I don't feel bad about that at all as they never touched my stash shelves.

I used fabric this week for the two backings, backing for a couple of table runners and am claiming yardage from a small quilt that my Husband put together strictly from leftovers from my stash.

Current Stats are:

Fabric used this week:  12.25
Fabric purchased this week:  6.75

Fabric used YTD:  51 yards
Fabric purchased YTD:  8.75

I do love the ratio of stash to purchase usage.  I hope I will be able to keep that up the great numbers as I am going to the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show the end of the week.  I think if I go with a couple of specific missions in mind (like I need about 1/2 yard of a burnt orange) hopefully I will keep my purchases low.

Design Wall Monday - February 17, 2014 - and Weekly Goals

Currently on my design wall are the first 16 blocks I have made so far from a simple Me and My Sister pattern using a layer cake.  For this I am using a Scrumptious layer cake designed by Bonnie and Camille for Moda.  I pulled this out mainly because of the springy fabrics, tired of the cold.

I am going to put this project away for now to save for my next sewing group.  Since it is all cut out and easy to piece makes a good project where I am doing as much talking as sewing!!  I have definitely learned not to take anything complicated to a sewing group, just asking for me to cut or sew something wrong.

As for my weekly goals I quilted 3 small customer quilts, topping my goal by one.  I also made two table runner tops and quilted them but I didn't get the panel quilt top made that I had intended on.   Even though I like to have goals to try and get a certain amount done during the week sometimes what I have planned out to do I am just no longer in the mood to tackle.  I guess as long as I am making progress on customer, craft show and personal projects it doesn't really matter what I end up doing.

My goals for this week (will see if I stick to them or not) are

Quilt 2 customer quilts
Make a backing for the rail fence quilt
Quilt and bind two more table runners

Think that is all that I am going to plan for the week as I have a couple of appointments and a sewing group this week.

Sunday Stash Report - February 16, 2014

With my stash this week I made 3 table runners and got two of them quilted

I finished the baby double sliced layer cake quilt top and started on another baby quilt.    I did break my record of having zero in the number of yards purchased this year though.   I needed two yards of a white on white and got that from my mini shop (left from closing our Quilt Shop in December).  I am still happy with my numbers though I know that I am going to have to "go shopping" for a couple of backings soon.

Here are my current stats:

Fabric used this week:  6.75
Fabric purchased this week:  2

Fabric used YTD:  38.75
Fabric purchased YTD:  2 yards

Design Wall Monday - February 10, 2014 and Weekly Goals

Currently on the design wall is this small double sliced layer cake baby quilt made from a Moda Jr. Layer Cake called Celebration.  Finally figured out what to use for the inner border (aqua strips) so hope to get this top done today or tomorrow.

I don't like the way the heads of a lot of the animals were cut off but many were that way to begin with.  Guess that is the problem with a large print as part of a pre-cut.  I like it anyway and the colors are great together.

I met all my goals set for this last week including making and getting 4 table runners quilted, quilted a customer quilt and started another baby quilt which is this one shown.

The this coming week my goals are:

Quilt 2 customer quilts
Finish this baby quilt top
Piece two more table runner tops
and make a kids quilt using one of the jungle panels from the bolt I received last week pictured below

I think I will probably use an orange inner boarder and a moda fabric I have that is a bright yellow with little orange dots on it for the outer border.

What do you plan this week?

Sunday Stash Report - February 9, 2014

I feel good that I met all of my quilting goals for the week.  I quilted and bound two spring runners, in fact I made two wine themed runners also and got those quilted yesterday.  I quilted one customer quilt, made a few batik blocks towards our queen sized quilt and got a good start on another baby quilt.

So I used a total of 5 1/2 yards this week on table runners and their backings.

My stats so far this year are:

Fabric used this week:  5.5 yards
Fabric purchased this week:  0 yards

Fabric used YTD:  32.5
Fabric purchased YTD:  0

I know I will not keep up with the zero purchase stat much longer as there are a couple of quilts I am going to need backings for but nice to continue with the zero as long as I can.

Goal Review

Doing great on my quilting goals this week (they are so much more fun than household goals).  I quilted the two spring runners, made and attached the binding and is ready to go to my binding fairy.

I made two additional runner tops, this time wine themed, quilted a customer quilt and have a new baby quilt ready to start at my sewing group today.

I also received this from Timeless Treasures yesterday.  Love love love this fabric!!!  Going to be putting some on etsy and selling some locally but definitely have to think up a project of my own to use some of this.

Design Wall Monday - February 3, 2014

Nothing very exciting on my design wall.  I have signed up to do a spring craft show (the first year for this one) so have started making some easy spring table runners.   Here is the first top that I completed.

I did well on my goals last week, I finished the rails quilt top, quilted a customer quilt and a baby quilt I made and made several more blocks for our batik quilt in addition to cutting out a few table runners.

My goals for this week are to quilt at least one customer quilt, quilt and bind the first couple of spring runners, make at least two more runner tops and start on the next baby quilt.    Considering have a sew in to go later in the week I think all these projects are doable.

A big congratulations to Seattle and their win in the super bowl last night.  Though I have not lived there in many many years Seattle was my home town and I grew up there so I know how excited all my old high school friends are with this win.
